Best Work from Home Tops for 2024

Best Work from Home Tops for Women blog post features an ivory top from contemporary brand Loulou Studio

Still searching for work from home tops, shirts, and sweaters in 2024? You’ve come to the right place.

Whether you’re fully remote, working a hybrid schedule, or spending much more time at home than you used to, I’ve scoured the stores for the best WFH shirts for women.

What to Look for When Shopping for Work from Home Tops

I had a few strict criteria when hunting down the best work-from-home tops for my readers and clients. These included:

  1. The wearer must be able to scrunch up the sleeves. This is important because when working from home, we usually do household tasks during breaks. If you’ve got to make lunch, fold laundry, or wash dishes between meetings, you need a sleeve that rolls up.
  2. The fabric must be comfortable. No, I will not be suffocating myself or my clients in any of those polyester, “satin” button-downs that are all over the stores.
  3. The style needs to look nice on camera. Of course, the WFH top needs to be casual enough for lounging at home, but chic enough to look good on any surprise Zoom calls. Due to this need, I’ve eliminated sleeveless and turtleneck tops.
  4. No dry cleaning is necessary. Even if the item is listed as dry clean only by a retailer, the item can easily handle being put in the gentle cycle on cold and air dried. Or, if you save nicer silk tops for calls, you can simply take them off, hang them up, and let them air until they make their next appearance.
  5. The WFH top is versatile. Versatility is key. Even if you primarily wear this top with your pajama pants, I highly recommend purchasing something that also looks decent with other pieces in your wardrobe. Think about choosing work-from-home tops that go well with jeans, black pants, leggings, joggers, and skirts. This way, you can maximize usefulness.

What to Wear with Work From Home Tops

As mentioned above, versatility is key. Truthfully, most of my clients end up pairing their WFH tops with pajamas or Vuori joggers at home. If you want to feel a bit more polished, consider these options:

  1. Matching Loungewear Bottoms. These typically come in a set with a sweater and a pair of pull-on or drawstring pants. Splendid makes fabulous loungewear sets
  2. Jeans. If you’re a woman who lives in jeans, they should pair well with your Work from Home shirts. As you may recall from this post, I’m currently loving MOTHER denim
  3. Leggings. Sure you could wear athletic leggings, but consider leveling up with a pair of faux leather leggings.
  4. Skirts. Many WFH-friendly tops and sweaters look great paired with a soft midi skirt.
  5. Wide-leg pants. These can be so comfortable, even more so than most leggings.
  6. Black pants. If you have an IRL meeting to attend one day, consider choosing black dress pants. These are my favorites.

Aqua V-Neck Cashmere Sweater

Yes, you can skip the dry cleaner even with this cashmere sweater. I suggest Dryel.

Eileen Fisher Ribbed Bateau Neck Top

From sustainable brand Eileen Fisher, this neckline is oh-so-flattering. Pair with the matching pants for the height of WFH chicness. Note this brand runs big, so order a size or two down from normal.

Loulou Studio Evie Ribbed Top

Rendered in a luscious silk, cotton, and elastane material, you may never take this off. It’s one of those versatile tops that pairs gorgeously with dressy skirts, lounge pants, or denim.

Majestic Filatures Soft Touch ¾ Sleeve Scoop Neck Tee

An elevated basic, this scoop neck tee is flattering on all body types. It’s currently available in dark grey, black, and white.

Rails Kathryn Button Front Shirt

Are you a creative or a whimsical dresser? This fun button-down features a large cat print that’s unique, but subtle.

Rag & Bone The Vee Basic T-Shirt

One of the greatest t-shirts of all time, Rag & Bone doesn’t disappoint with this style. If the thought of paying $80 for a simple tee makes you nauseous, GAP also makes a great camera-ready tee.

Splendid James Layering Sweater

A lavender color looks great on almost everyone. The banded hem also makes this WFH sweater easy to tuck in if you need to look polished quickly.

Theory Pima Cotton Shirt

This is the most traditional work shirt on our list of WFH-friendly options. I chose this one because the Pima cotton fabric makes it softer and more wearable. Plus, it’s so hard to find a classic, fitted shirt these days.

Veronica Beard Coralee Knit Button Front Eyelet Sleeve Top

Adorable? Yes. This top is available in off-white and navy at Neiman Marcus.
